Habitat Grant Helps Area Disabled Veterans

This year Steuben County Habitat for Humanity received a grant from Habitat International to help us serve Veterans in our area. The Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification Program through Habitat International is a program that helps disabled veterans with critical home repairs.

For 2021 we received enough funding to help 6 veterans in total. We have completed 5 of these repairs and by year’s end hope to have finished the 6th, as well as a 7th, thanks to funds from elsewhere. One of these projects included installing a new energy-efficient furnace for a family in Canisteo whose furnace was lost in the recent flooding. We were able to complete this project just in time for the cold weather. Other projects include a bathroom repair in Corning, a roof replacement in Cameron Mills, as well as installation of a handicap accessible shower for a family in Bath.

We thank all these veterans for their service. We also thank those veterans who support Habitat through volunteering their hours to help on our regular builds.

Thank you to all who have served our country in our armed forces.
