Lowes and Habitat Team up to Help Local Veteran.

Linda and Malcolm Campbell live in a small cape cod 2-story home in Hornell.  Malcolm is a disabled Veteran who served in the Army.  They were in need of a furnace and a new bathroom.

Through a grant partnership with Lowes, Habitat Was able to help them with their home repair needs.

Their furnace was a radiant heat model.  This never heated the entire house and being as old as it was, when it finally broke, no one was able to find replacement parts or fix it.  An energy audit also showed that they lacked insulation in their basement and attic.  The grant meant that the old furnace could be replaced with a high-energy efficient one.  Linda says that, for the first time, the entire house is heated and that Malcolm no longer constantly complains of being cold.

The Campbell's only bathroom was not configured so that Linda could easily help Malcolm with his personal care.  The tiny shower stall meant that he got water in his eyes and every shower ended with him agitated and combative.  Linda says that what used to take 20 minutes to an hour now takes less than ten.  With her husband less stressed, he is able to do more of his own personal care.

We want to thank Lowes Home improvement for partnering with us on this project. We also want to thank all whose generosity helps us continue our critical repair program throughout Stuben County!

"I can't even describe the positive difference this has made in both our lives"!
